NAIDOC Week 2024 will be held nationally from Sunday 7 July to Sunday 14 July 2024.

Bathurst Regional Council will celebrate NAIDOC Week during the school term, with an event on Wednesday 3 July 2024 from 11am at Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre.

Mayor Cr Jess Jennings said the 2024 NAIDOC Week theme is ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud’.

“In celebration of the 2024 NAIDOC Week theme, Council has collaborated with Loveridge Digital, First Nations community members, Elders, schools and service providers to produce a short film, Miil Bulal. The film will premiere at Council’s NAIDOC Week event, followed by a flag raising ceremony and lunch.”

“Miil Bulal (both eyes – Wiradjuri) will take you on a journey through the Bathurst First Nations Community. Hear the sounds of young men playing the didgeridoo, flow through the mighty Wambuul with Elders as they share their Biladurang dreaming story, go back to the classroom to immerse yourself in Wiradjuri language and dance, travel to the foot of Wahluu as you put yourself in a student’s shoes at Wammarra, and shrink yourself to see through the eyes of pre-schoolers,” Cr Jennings said.

Miil Bulal will introduce you to many First Nations community members who are paving the way for future generations, keeping the fire burning and being blak, loud & proud

The community is invited to attend this celebration:

Date:               Wednesday 3 July 2024

Time:               11am – 1pm
