On 26 January, reflect, respect and celebrate Australia Day with a variety of events across the Bathurst Region.
Mayor Cr Robert Taylor noted that Australia Day this year will include Council’s formal Citizenship and Awards ceremonies, as well as activities in our villages and the popular free entry to Manning Aquatic Centre.
"This Australia Day, we are proud to be inducting 49 citizens from nations including Pakistan, Vietnam, New Zealand, Germany, Croatia, Ireland, Sri Lanka and the USA. It is an immensely special occasion as we officially acknowledge our newest Australian citizens in our local community.
“We are honoured to have our Australia Day ambassador, Cheryl Koening OAM, join us for our ceremonies. Cheryl is a Sydney-based author, motivational speaker, and the 2009 NSW Woman of the Year. What a privilege to have her present on the day” Mayor Cr Taylor said.
With five published books, Cheryl has spoken across Australia and internationally, including a notable appearance at a Neuropsychological Symposium in Brazil in 2008. Cheryl's heartfelt speeches, including an inspiring address to Macquarie University graduates in April 2016, showcase her commitment to uplifting others.
Her message emphasises thriving despite adversity, embodied in her personal motto:
“Never underestimate your potential to beat the odds – it’s not important where you finish, but it is important that you try!”
