Council has notified the NSW Electoral Commission (NSWEC) of the 16 October resignation of Councillor Jess Jennings.
A countback election will now take place to fill the vacancy, with all potential candidates being contacted in the next 28 days. This will be conducted by the NSWEC.
The countback election will be run using the existing ballot papers from September’s election. The preferences given to vacating councillor Jess Jennings will now be allocated to the candidate with the next highest preference on that ballot paper.
General Manager David Sherley confirmed the vacancy will be filled as swiftly as possible and has no impact on sitting councillors or the recent mayoral election.
“We are working closely with the NSW Electoral Commission to fill the vacancy within their 49 day election period timeframe. All Councillors are maintaining regular activities during this time” he said.
