Japanese Mayoral Welcome

On 24 October, Bathurst Regional Council welcomed 12 delegates from the Japanese Local Government National Association of Towns and Villages.

Joined by The Honourable Andrew Gee, Mayor Cr Robert Taylor and Cr Elaine West met the delegation at Council Chambers, offering a warm welcome to the group as they conducted their 58th Overseas Local Administration Study Tour.

Delegate leader Takao Tanano, Mayor of Shiranuka-cho and president of the Hokkaido Prefectural Association of Towns and Villages, commented on how impressed he was with how beautiful and clean he found the city of Bathurst and regaled the assembly with his joy at completing a lap of the famous Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit.

The goal of the delegation’s visit was to better understand how Australian local councils operate, receiving presentations on tourism management, digital transformation and forestry management during their stay. The delegation concluded their visit to Bathurst with a site tour of the Suzuki Wagyu Farm at Evans Plains to learn about Australian agriculture prior to their return to Sydney.

Council is honoured to have hosted their visit and delighted to strengthen the friendship between the people of Japan and the city of Bathurst.
