This Friday, 28 February, 113 students from Tokyo’s Toyo High School will be arriving in Bathurst. 2025 marks Toyo High’s 23rd visit to our city.

The group will be staying in Bathurst for 3 nights, during which they will be exploring the region, meeting local students and engaging in activities across Bathurst High School and Charles Sturt University campuses.

On Sunday 2 March, the students will be participating in a Cultural Exchange Party at Bathurst High, where local Bathurst students, host families, teachers and Council representatives will also be in attendance. This performance evening provides a platform for student interaction and acts as a celebration of their time exploring the Central West, with students putting together presentations and performances to showcase on the evening.

Local media is encouraged to attend, details are below:

48 local families will be hosting the Japanese students for the duration of their visit. This includes 9 new host families and 37 returning host families.

Mayor Cr Robert Taylor thanked the host families for their continued support of this great global initiative and commented on Council’s ambitions for the program going forward.

“I’d like to extend a big thank you to the families across Bathurst who continue to support this program and eagerly host students each year. Your generosity is hugely appreciated. This thank you is also extended to our brilliant staff at the Bathurst Visitor Information Centre who have worked tirelessly to coordinate this terrific trip.

“113 students marks the largest Japanese visitation our town has had since the Covid-19 Pandemic. It’s excellent to see the numbers rise and our relationship with Japan continue to strengthen. We hope to maintain this increase with our sights for next year set on more than 200 Japanese students arriving in Bathurst” he noted.
