Council’s draft budget is now on exhibition and the community has until the end of May to make submissions.
Deputy Mayor Cr Ben Fry said despite the tough economic conditions impacting Council's bottom line, Council is pushing forward with asset renewal and maintenance with funding for community and infrastructure projects.
“Council is reinforcing its commitment to maintain the assets that Bathurst’s ratepayers use daily.
"We understand the importance of balancing the budget and tightening the belt, but we also need reliable and modern infrastructure for our residents' quality of life, and we are determined to deliver enhancements that our community deserves.”
The Council has earmarked funds for various key projects across the region:
- Aquatic Centre Upgrades - an investment of $180,000 to refurbish the change rooms, enhancing the facility's usability and accessibility.
- John Matthews Tennis Centre – two tennis court surfaces will be rejuvenated with a $77,000 investment, ensuring top-class facilities for local and visiting athletes.
- Rural Infrastructure Enhancements - the Sofala Rural Transfer Station and the Waste Management Centre will see upgrades totaling $820,000, improving waste management services for the community.
Council is investing $2 million in improving roads, bridges, and footpaths in key areas such as Freemantle Road, Limekilns Road, O'Regans Road, Evans Plains Road, and Wambool Road, significantly enhancing transportation and access.
A $304,000 project will extend footpaths on Eglinton Road from Bradwardine to Westbourne, improving pedestrian access and safety.
“Council has balanced the draft budget for 2024-25. Our focus is on maintaining services and facilities for our community.
“All of our budget documents are now on exhibition and the community has until Friday 31 May to provide feedback. Council will then consider the budget at the 16 June Council meeting to lock in our priorities and spending for 2024-25,” Cr Fry said.
The budget documents are available on YourSay Bathurst or hard copy documents can be viewed at the Civic Centre.
