Bathurst Regional Council will host two forums for aspiring candidates for this year’s local government elections.

Mayor Cr Jess Jennings said the forums are a great opportunity for anyone considering nominating as a candidate to learn more about the roles and responsibilities of being an elected member.

“Council will hold two forums, one on Wednesday 17 July and the second on Thursday 18 July.

“One of the forums will be run by the Office of Local Government’s Deputy Secretary Brett Whitworth, the second will be run by BRC. Both sessions will provide valuable insights for those considering nominating for this year’s local government elections and the content for both sessions will be the same,” Cr Jennings said.

General Manager David Sherley said the sessions provide a range of information on what’s required of councillors during their term of office.

“The discussion will include items like the time commitment required including attendance at Council meetings and other events, the framework Council’s operate in and the roles of

Councillors and Council staff.

“There will also be an opportunity to ask questions at both sessions,” Mr Sherley said.

The candidate information sessions will be held:

5.30pm  - 7pm - Thursday 18 July
