While BARC remains closed to the public, from Wednesday 12 February the facility is resuming cat appointments only, with specific conditions in place.

Two appointments will be available per day, 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM, and no additional appointments will be scheduled outside these times. Walk-ins will not be permitted.

Once a cat appointment is scheduled within the approved time slots, the following steps must be followed:

  • Arrival: The visitor must park on the street and should not enter the facility.

  • Check-in: After parking, the visitor must call the number posted on the gate (council contact number) and wait for a staff member.

  • Entry: Under no circumstances should a visitor enter the facility without being accompanied by a staff member.

  • Appointment: The visitor will be escorted to the cat adoption room, where available animals and their specific needs will be discussed.

  • Adoption Process: If the visitor decides to adopt a cat, all paperwork and required payments will be processed as usual.

  • Animal Release: Once paperwork and payment are completed, the adopted animal can leave with the new owner.

Cats available for adoption can be found, here: https://www.bathurst.nsw.gov.au/Services/Animals-for-Adoption

BARC does not have any active Parvovirus cases in the facility at this current time; however, dog adoptions remain closed as they are still within the 21-day risk period and must reach 21 consecutive days without a Parvovirus case before reopening fully.

Canine Parvovirus is a highly contagious virus that affects dogs but does not pose a risk to humans or cats. Controlled entry and sanitisation protocols are in place to prevent visitors from unintentionally carrying the virus to other dogs in their household or community.
