Bathurst Regional Council is disappointed by the decision made today by Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) and the NSW Government to relocate Panorama Clinic to Orange during the redevelopment of Bathurst Hospital.
Mayor Cr Robert Taylor remarked that this decision will leave the entire Bathurst Region community unfairly disadvantaged.
“I speak on behalf of all at Council when I say that I am deeply disappointed in the Government’s decision making. Moving such a vital health service away from the community that it directly supports will leave our city at a remarkable disadvantage.
“The redevelopment of our hospital is a long-awaited project, but it should not come with detrimental repercussions impacting clinic staff, the Bathurst community and wider region. Residents who are most in need of these services will be gravely affected” Cr Taylor said.
Understanding that WNSWLHD is committed to implementing several enhancements to community mental health and support services during the relocation, Council will be speaking with Bathurst Community Health Committee to ascertain what is needed to alleviate the impact of this decision.
