In another move towards sustainability, Council has taken delivery of its first electric tipper truck, the first electric truck for a Council in the Central West.
The Hino SEA Electric truck will be utilised by the waste team for bin deliveries and replacements and rubbish pickups. Council has purchased an electric truck to test the suitability of electric trucks for Council’s wider truck fleet and learnings will be shared with other Councils in the Central NSW area.
Mayor Jess Jennings said Council is dedicated to implementing sustainable practices that ultimately save Council and ratepayers money in the transition towards a cleaner and greener future.
“I want to see win:win outcomes for Council, as the world changes to renewable electric everything and deploying a test EV truck is a good start,” Cr Jennings said.
“By investing in electric vehicles we are reducing our carbon footprint by embarking on a more cost-effective future, given the trajectory that electric vehicle technology is already on. We know running and maintenance costs are minimal for EVs, so let’s see what that looks like in reality for our Council. This approach also prioritises the health of our environment and community,” he said.
The e-truck will run off 100 per cent renewable energy (solar system on WMC truck shed, which currently produces excess solar to the site’s needs. Any electricity drawn from the grid is also renewable as Council purchases 100 per cent renewable energy).
