The Countdown is on to the 2024 Bathurst Winter festival.

Mayor Cr Jess Jennings said the site build starts this week, with Russell Street closing to traffic from 6am Thursday 27 June.

“The ice rink infrastructure takes nearly a week to construct and work will start tomorrow on the build to ensure we’re ready for opening day on Saturday 6 July.

“This year, the Winter Playground will include the ice rink, the two-storey carousel and two other rides for the entire festival period.  Feedback from visitors to the festival was that they wanted more options for rides each day of the festival, and we’ve been able to respond to that request.  There will also be food truck in the winter playground daily.

“Ticket sales for the ice rink are continuing to sell well with almost 2,500 tickets already sold. Almost 75 percent of these sales are to festival goers from outside the 2795 postcode area. July is currently sitting 4% up on total accommodation forward bookings compared to the same time last year. These are all positive signs for high visitor numbers to this year’s festival.”

“We’re expecting a large crowd for the festival opening which will include a lantern parade, smoking ceremony and one of the festival favourites, the illuminations on our historic buildings will make their debut,” Cr Jennings said.
