Bathurst Regional Council is inviting the community to share their experiences, stories and views about flooding and past storm events as part of the Bathurst flood study update.

Mayor Cr Jess Jennings said Council has received financial support under the NSW Floodplain Management Program to undertake a flood study for Bathurst.

“Council has engaged specialist consultants Stantec to prepare the Bathurst Flood Study Update.  The last major study for the Macquarie Wambuul River in Bathurst was undertaken in 1995 and the updated study will incorporate improvements in flood modelling techniques, provide updates to the flood risk management process and allow Council to review existing flood mitigation infrastructure like our levee system.

“The updated flood study, once completed, will also inform the use of planning controls under Council’s Local Environmental Plan and Development Control Plan.

“Council has written to property owners and tenants who have land or live within or close to the flood study area seeking their feedback and experiences about recent flood events. We are also asking the wider community to participate and complete the flood study survey to help inform the update.

“We will be holding two information sessions to let the community know about the flood study update and the broader flood risk management process. These sessions will be held on Monday 29 July at 2pm and 6pm.

“Council will be taking feedback from the community until Friday 16 August 2024,” Cr Jennings said.

The information sessions will be held on:

2pm & 6pm Monday 29 July, 2024, Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre.

RSVP to: sue.miller@bathurst.nsw.gov.au or call 6333 6100 by 3pm Thursday 25 July 2024.
