Council has welcomed a $20 million grant from the State Government’s Accelerated Infrastructure Fund to construct critical infrastructure to support the future development of the Laffing Waters Master Plan precinct.

Mayor Cr Jess Jennings said the Fund provides funding to accelerate the development of projects in areas of the state experiencing high levels of growth, to support an increase in housing supply.

“The NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure population projections estimate that the population of the Bathurst region will increase to 57,060 by 2040.

“The Laffing Waters Master Plan precinct represents a key urban release area to support a significant proportion of that growth. The infrastructure funding will support the construction of some 2270 new homes into the future.”

“The funding will be used to construct key up-front infrastructure such as stormwater management and new roads, including active transport routes, to connect the Laffing Waters master plan precinct to the existing road network,” Cr Jennings said.

The grant will accelerate the delivery of this new urban release area for the city of Bathurst.

Council has an adopted Master Plan for Laffing Waters. The Master Plan seeks to:

  • Create a diverse new community connected to regional Bathurst.
  • Activate new green open spaces and places.
  • Showcase environmental, social and sustainable development.
  • Grow a vibrant and thriving neighbourhood activity centre at the heart of Laffing Waters.
  • Celebrate the views to the Bathurst town centre.
  • Develop a school, recreation, and sporting precinct.
  • Offer new levels of diverse housing choice, types, and sizes with access to neighbourhood and district parks, connected pedestrian and bike paths, and 52 hectares of liveable, green spaces.
  • Offer exceptional liveability, beautiful natural setting, green streetscapes, and sustainable parklands.
