These past few weeks, I have had the pleasure of attending end of year presentation ceremonies at schools across our region.

Well done to all Bathurst students for their exceptional work this year and the wonderful results that have been announced for each year group this month. I would like to especially congratulate the Year 12 graduating class of 2024. This is a brilliant achievement, and I wish you all the best for your endeavours next year as you step into this exciting new stage of life.

It’s wonderful to see the city getting into the festive spirit as the year winds down too; last weekend’s Carols by Candlelight was an excellent event and it was great to have it back in Machattie Park, the home of the carols.

In Council news, last Friday I met with Councillors and the Bathurst Community Health Committee to understand the community's needs following the announcement that Panorama Clinic is temporarily to relocate to Orange for the duration of Bathurst Hospital’s redevelopment. Council and the Committee voiced their disappointment in the decision; however, we were pleased to hear that overall services are not being disrupted to the grave extent that we had feared. Day and outpatient services are to be maintained in Bathurst and simply moved to an alternative onsite location whilst construction is underway, with Western NSW Local Health District confirming that mental health clinicians will still be available and operating as normal.

Looking ahead to this weekend, our nine Councillors will be participating in a ‘visioning session’ here in Council Chambers. This collaborative workshop will help to inform our new Community Strategic Plan (CSP). The CSP is a fundamental pillar of our activities here at Council; we ensure that the plan reflects more than just our objectives, but more so the priorities and needs of everyone who calls Bathurst home. To achieve this, we have opened a community YourSay survey for you to voice your perspective on what is needed in our city. Reflecting survey responses and Councillor insights, the draft CSP document will be shared with the community in the new year before it is formally adopted by Council in June 2025.

Please make sure you complete the survey below so our CSP can be as informed as possible: Community Strategic Plan | Your Say Bathurst Region
