It’s less than one week until Christmas - this year has certainly flown by!  I hope a well earnt break is enjoyed by all over this summer period.

It has been terrific to hear of this year’s winners of the Christmas Buy Local campaign. This initiative highlights the excellent local businesses we have across the Bathurst Region. Over this holiday break, make sure you continue to pay a visit to our great local stores, as well as the excellent cultural facilities, parks and restaurants we are lucky to have across town.

It may be our final full week here at Council, but that certainly doesn’t mean that the work has slowed down. This past Wednesday we held a terrific official opening of the newly completed Changing Places Facility in Bicentennial Park.

With improved male and female toilets, an accessible toilet/parent's room, and a ‘Changing Places’ Design 2.0 adult change facility that includes a toilet, shower, adult changing table, and an overhead crane to meet unique needs, this amenities block fills the gap for much needed accessible public facilities in our city and provides peace of mind and support for those with disability in Bathurst.

I was also pleased to hear of the Bathurst Regional Youth Council’s fantastic ‘Holly Jolly Hangout’ that was held in Kings Parade this week. This event provided young people of Bathurst an opportunity to hang out with their friends or meet new people ahead of the summer break. Well done to all our Youth Councillors for facilitating a wonderful event.

On behalf of all Councillors and staff at Bathurst Regional Council, I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Robert Taylor

Mayor of Bathurst
