Happy December, who can believe we are nearing the end of 2024!

This week, I was pleased to attend the grand opening of the Charles Sturt University, School of Rural Medicine, Central Tablelands Clinical School.

Located right here in our CBD, this all-new space provides medical students with access to a simulation room to practice their clinical skills, as well as dedicated areas to participate in tutorials and take exams. To reduce the doctor shortage we have out here in the Central West, we need to be teaching students from rural areas, in rural areas – which is exactly what this program is tackling. This purpose-built space is an excellent resource for local medicine students as they undertake their regional and rural health service placements.

Not only does this facility give Bathurst’s student doctors a space to continue their training but, through the local connections they foster, it acts as impetus to remain and work in regional NSW post-graduation. I wish all the current and upcoming students the best of luck with their studies.

I’m sure you’ll have noticed the festive cheer take over our town this week.

It was wonderful to watch as Bathurst’s well-loved Christmas tree went up in Kings Parade, along with the activation of the Christmas lights along the Civic Centre. Keeping in the Christmas spirit, make sure you mark in your diaries Reliance Bank’s Carols by Candlelight this Sunday. With pre-show entertainment commencing at 5:30pm, make sure you head to Machattie Park for this free & festive community event.
