New Changing Places Facility

 Construction will commence soon on a new public amenities block at Bicentennial Park located next to the playground.

The facility will include improved male and female toilets, an accessible toilet/parents room, and an accessible ‘Changing Places’ Design 2.0 adult change facility that includes a toilet, shower, adult changing table, and overhead crane to meet special accessibility needs.

Mayor Jess Jennings said the project seeks to deliver on Council’s vision to create safer and more accessible places and spaces for use and enjoyment by all community members and visitors.

“Having this facility in our city provides people with a disability the opportunity to be out and about in public spaces, without the fear of not having access to a suitable toilet,” he said.

The amenities will feature a heritage exterior aesthetic to suit the local area while incorporating a modernised interior. Additional works include establishing two accessible parking spaces on Williams St with a connection to the Changing Places facility via a new 1500mm accessible path.

Works will begin with irrigation relocation, decommissioning, and demolition of the existing toilet block. This will be followed by the construction of the new amenities block, new accessible paths, perambulator ramps, and parking spaces.

Site works are commencing on Thursday, 22 February weather permitting.
