Community Tree Planting Day | Sunday 30 March 

Join us this Sunday 30 March for our Community Tree Planting Day and lend a hand to help plant native plants for flying-fox habitat along the banks of the Macquarie Wambuul River. 

Commencing at 10am off Morrisset Street and Zante Lane, downstream of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, the event welcomes adults and kids alike to participate in planting native trees, shrubs, and grasses. 

Parking for vehicles is available at the Zante Lane end of the Wastewater Treatment Plant service lane accessed via Morrisset Street. Four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle access to the planting site is ONLY permissible for volunteers with a disability.

Library Closure 24 & 25 April 

Bathurst Library will be closed on 24 April for Union Picnic Day and 25 April for the Anzac Day public holiday. 

Normal hours will resume on Saturday 26 April, 10am-3pm. 

Nightwork on the Great Western Highway at Kirkconnell 

The Australian and NSW Governments are jointly funding safety upgrades on the Great Western Highway at Kirkconnell, approximately 30km east of Bathurst. 

Transport for NSW will be completing safety work on the Great Western Highway at Kirkconnell, between Sunny Corner Road and Diamond Swamp Road. The work will commence on Tuesday 25 March and will be carried out at night to minimise impact on motorists. Work hours will be between 6pm and 5am Sunday to Thursday. It is expected to take five weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Free Heritage Lectures with David Young 

Council is hosting David Young, a highly sought after heritage consultant who has carried out heritage best practice training courses all across the country, and internationally. Preceding the Heritage Trades Trail weekend, join the author of Mortars: Materials, Mixes & Methods for two informative FREE lectures that will help guide homeowners and tradies alike in how to look after heritage buildings.  

  1. Thursday 10 April 3pm – Salt Attack and Rising Damp lecture 

  1. Friday 11 April 3pm – Mortars: Materials, Mixed and Methods – Introducing the Mortars Technical Guide.

Temporary Road Closures | 2025 Jaguar National Rally – Display Day  

Council advises that the following closures and changes to traffic conditions will be in place from 5am to 5pm on Saturday 5 April 2025 for the National Jaguar Rally Display Day. 

• Closure of Russell Street, between George Street and William Street. 

• Closure of Church Street, between Parrish Lane and Ribbon Gang Lane 

Detour for road closure on the Mitchell Highway between Bathurst and Orange 

Transport for NSW is starting construction on the Vittoria West safety project on the Mitchell Highway between Bathurst and Orange. This project is being funded by the Towards Zero Safer Roads Program and includes road widening for a 1.4-metre-wide centreline, a new dedicated right hand turning lane at Gardiners Road, new asphalt pavement and the installation of a guardrail. 

Starting Monday 31 March, work will be carried out under a full road closure at night between 7pm and 5am with detours in place via Blayney. Motorists should allow an additional 15minutes travel time. 

Initial work includes installing temporary safety barriers, replacing and extending culverts and preparing to carry out earthworks for the project. It is expected to take 5 nights to complete, weather permitting.  

Following the completion of the nightworks, work will continue Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm. The entire project is expected to take nine months to complete. 

Temporary Road Closure - Ribbon Gang Lane 

Council advises that Ribbon Gang Lane will be closed from Thursday 20 March 2025 for a period of approximately 12 weeks. During this time access will be maintained for pedestrians and adjacent properties.  

The temporary closure is for Scaffolding Works completed by DSL Construction with enquiries to be directed to 0400 096 505.

Waste 2 Art Community Workshop

Fiona Howle, our own local, brilliant and passionate artist, will be hosting a FREE Waste 2 Art workshop on creating works of art from old toys. Open to ages 6+, this is an opportunity not to be missed.

Road Closure | Hughes & Marsden Lane roundabout construction 

Marsden Lane, between Ilumba Way and Sunbright Road will be temporarily closed until approximately 5pm 28 March for the construction of a roundabout. 

Local resident access will be maintained.
