I don't have access to a computer – what should I do?
The following venues allow public access to computers which have internet and word processing applications available:
- Bathurst Regional Library in Keppel Street. Please visit the library to book a computer to avoid disappointment.
- Kelso Community Centre (Monday to Wednesday, 9am – 3pm) provide public access computers with word processing and internet.
Please note that Library and Community Centre staff are unable to provide assistance in completing job applications.
I don't have an email address – what should I do?
You will need to establish your new email account before you can register through our eRecruitment portal. If you are not confident you can complete this process, we recommend you ask a friend or family member to assist.
To apply for a position with Bathurst Regional Council you must submit your application through Council's online recruitment system. Prior to applying you should read through the Position Summary to ensure you understand what the position requirements are.
There is no need prepare a statement addressing the selection criteria or to include a cover letter, just answer the questions on the application page, giving adequate details for the reader to understand how your skills and experience are relevant to the job you are applying for.
Answer the questions clearly and directly, referring to your previous knowledge and experience.
At the end of the online application process you must attach a copy of your resume. You can also attach any other documents relevant to your application.
Please note that you cannot save your application. If you want to work on your application over a period of time, it is suggested that you formulate your responses into a Word (or similar) document and then copy and paste once you are satisfied with your responses.
You will receive an email confirming your application has been received shortly after you submit it.
Completed applications must be received before 4pm on the advertised closing date. All applications received will become the property of Bathurst Regional Council.
Council operates a merit-based recruitment process.
If you are successful in gaining an interview you will be informed via email or phone. Please inform the person arranging the interview if you have any special requirements, e.g. wheelchair access.
A selection panel, generally consisting of three people, will conduct interviews.
The panel will attempt to determine your suitability for the position by asking a combination of technical questions and questions about your experience which relate to the essential and desirable criteria and job tasks listed in the job description.
The interview will follow a structured process and the panel will ask all applicants the same questions. They may follow up in more depth with individual applicants if necessary.
If you are invited to interview you should bring a copy of your resume including original certificates / qualifications and your drivers licence.
Where you are invited to meet with us for an interview, you may be asked to participate in pre-employment screening processes as part of the selection process. These may include:
• A functional assessment (at Council's expense) including a hearing test and a drug and alcohol screen.
• Reference checking.
• Verification of working with children check numbers (if required).
• Skills testing.
• Psychological testing.
• Checking authenticity of certificates and qualifications.
• Any other applicable screening relevant to the role.
