Proclamation Day acknowledges the anniversary of the day Bathurst was proclaimed a town by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1815 and commemorates past and present members of Bathurst who have contributed to shaping the town.

The proclamation was made by Governor Macquarie on 7 May 1815.

This year, the event will be acknowledged online only.

Proclamation Day gives the people of Bathurst an opportunity to reflect on the history of our place and to carry forward the lessons learnt from our past.

Citizens of Bathurst have marked the day on which Governor Macquarie established the site for a future town in 1815 by celebrating the achievements of people – both Wiradjuri and colonial people are recognised. We see this reflected in the range of monuments that honour them. The Pillars of Bathurst, the Pioneer Heritage Wall, the Flagstaff and its encompassing Wiradjuri symbols and art works, historic plaques and cairns of stones, self-guided walking tours routes punctuated with information panels along the streets, all pay tribute to people who made positive contributions to our wonderful regional city.

Why not take a self-guided walk to explore these aspects of our history.
