Bathurst Regional Youth Council 2024/2025 applications open
Applications are now open for the 2024/2025 Bathurst Regional Youth Council. The Bathurst Regional Youth Council consists of young people aged between 12 and 24 years and is an opportunity for them to engage with the Bathurst Regional Council and other youth service providers. Members of the Bathurst Regional Youth Council have the opportunity to develop and promote youth-friendly activities, voice young people’s opinions and concerns, raise awareness of youth issues, and develop an understanding of Local Government’s planning and operational processes.
Application Forms are available from schools or Council’s website bathurst.nsw.gov.au/youth. Applications open Monday 20 May 2024 and close 4:00pm on Monday 17 June 2024. For more information please call Council’s Community Services section on (02) 6333 6523.
Art in the Park
Council is seeking artists to submit proposals of existing works to feature at the Bathurst Winter Festival 6-21 July 2024. Artworks can take the form of sculpture, lightworks, installations or soundscapes. Submissions close Friday 31 May. Lantern Making Workshop and Parade
Registrations are now open to take part in the lantern making workshop and parade at this year’s Bathurst Winter Festival. Learn how to make awe inspiring lanterns with Phil Relf on Saturday 6 July from 10am – 3.30pm then join the lantern parade at the Bathurst Winter Festival Opening Night. All are welcome to come along and join in the fun. 2024 Bathurst Careers Expo
The annual Bathurst Careers Expo provides the chance for job-seekers and school-leavers to explore their career prospects with over 80 exhibitors in attendance, ranging from educational institutions to large and small businesses based in the Central West.

National Sorry Day
National Sorry Day is observed annually on May 26, to acknowledge and recognise the historical mistreatment and injustices inflicted upon First Nations people, particularly the forced removal of Indigenous children from their families.
Council will host an Elders Morning Tea to commemorate National Sorry Day 2024.

Community tree planting days
A community tree planting day will be held on and Sunday 26 May, starting at 10am, along the banks of Queen Charlotte’s Vale Creek.
Lend a hand to help plant native plants for flying-fox habitat along the banks of the Macquarie Wambuul River. After the planting activities, Bathurst Regional Council will host a free BBQ lunch for all participants.

National Reconciliation Week | Big BBQ
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2024 is 'Now More Than Ever', a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will - and must - continue.
Council will host a free big BBQ event on Friday 31 May 2024 from 11:30am - 1:30pm in Kings Parade.
The event will also include a Welcome to Country and traditional dances performed by Dirraybang Footprint.
The Bathurst Winter Festival is back
The Bathurst Winter Festival is almost here and it’s time to start planning your Winter adventure this July school holidays! Tickets to the McDonald’s Bathurst Ice Rink are on sale from Wednesday the 8th of May. Pillars of Bathurst
2024 nominations are now open for the Pillars of Bathurst project which recognises people who have played an important part in the development of our community.

Photography competition
The Bathurst Visitor Information Centre (BVIC) is celebrating the exceptional natural beauty of our region this autumn with a photography competition. The competition is open to all, with entries closing Saturday, 24 May.
Two winners will be selected, one by the BVIC tourism team and the other by a public vote from a shortlist compiled by BVIC from all submissions received. Public voting will be open in the final week of autumn from 24 to 31 May. Winners will be announced on Saturday the 1 June. Winners will receive a $250 Buy Local Gift Card. Bathurst Writers and Readers Festival
The Bathurst Writers and Readers Festivals Great Festival Read is back. This hugely popular feature of the local program sees booklovers reading the same book in the lead-up to the Festival weekend on May 24th - May 26th at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre. This year’s book is Girl In A Pink Dress by Kylie Needham. Set in both the Sydney art world and a remote mountain town, it’s the story of a woman artist, Frances, told across two time periods. National Simultaneous Storytime

Bathurst Library will participate in National Simultaneous Storytime, which is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association. Each year a picture book, by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously around the country.
Arrive by 11:50am for a 12pm sharp start.
Dress in blue to celebrate this year's featured book, Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker. There will also be stories, songs, rhymes and a take-home craft.
Throughout this week, collect a scavenger hunt sheet to complete for your chance to go in the prize draw, thanks to BooksPlus.

Tania Blanchard writes historical fiction inspired by the true stories and the rich cultural heritage of her family's history. Her new book A Woman of Courage, is the story of the women’s suffrage movement in England 1890, told through the perspective of a young woman and the choices she must make to help forge a new future. Master nature sound recordist, Andrew Skeoch, will guide you into hearing the languages of nature; developing your auditory awareness, identifying species by ear, recognising behaviours and repertoire, and finding empathy with the voices of other beings.
Deeper listening allows us to discern the integrity of entire ecosystems, the influence of evolution and earth time, and reveal what the communications of the biosphere tell us about how nature functions to sustain itself. Andrew’s presentations are accompanied by vibrant recordings and spectrogram analysis that shows the beauty of birdsong. You’ll hear the environment around you in a whole new way.
